'Black Panther' Breaks Record on Debut

In just three days, it is an astonishing $201.8 million.


The Black Panther from Marvel Studios has become the top five domestic openings of all time shattering the record for a February debut.

During the President Day holiday weekend, the movie grossed $242 million turning into second highest four day domestic opening of all time.

Black Panther joins the group of few movies that have crossed $200 million mark on their debut. Other movies in the group are Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Avengers.

With the phenomenal success of this movie, eight of the top 10 all-time domestic debuts come from The Walt Disney, five of which are from Marvel Studios.

Black Panther has earned over $370 million globally along with the remarkable international debut of $169 million. With Monday's global included, the earning has reached $427 million.

The stream of breaking records started with domestic February preview amassing $25.2 million, than on the first day $75.8 million, with $65.9 million on Saturday it turned to be the fourth biggest ever, and than history was made on Sunday being the second-best with $60.1 million earning.

The movie was only behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Wait, this is not all, the movie pulled large crowd on the first day of the week, Monday, turning it to be the biggest ever with $40.2 million.

Internationally, Black Panther made strong starts in Korea and UK. New February opening weekend records were set in the UK and Ireland as well. In Korea as well the movie has become the fifth biggest Western industry opening of all time.


The movie will open up in Russia on February 22nd, China on March 9th and Japan on March 1st.
