Fans,
family, former colleagues, and other honored guests gathered Nov. 3
to pay tribute to the late Tejano singer
A
commemorative
ceremony honoring
late Tejano singer Selena
took
place on Friday, Nov. 3, and attracted a record-breaking
crowd as the Latin music icon's new star was installed on the
Hollywood
Walk of Fame.
As
Billboard
reports,
more than 4,500 fans were in attendance on Vine Street for the
evening ceremony, which a representative from the Hollywood Chamber
Of Commerce later confirmed to be the largest crowd that has ever
been present for a Walk of Fame ceremony — a record set almost 20
years ago when Mexican singer Vicente Fernández received his own
Walk Of Fame star in 1998.
Los
Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was present at the ceremony to address
the gathered crowd of fans, family, and honored guests. "This is
history in the making," he proclaimed.
"Selena
was an angel, and we thank the family for all they gave and have
given this country, and it’s a message we need now more than ever.
Because we aren’t strangers to this land, this is our home."
